Well fellas I can't complain about this turkey season one bit. First I took a fourteen year old out and called up his first bird the sunday of youth season. It was a 22 pound, 9 1/2 inch beard and 1 inch spurs. He was so happy and I was happy to be part of his first turkey harvest.
Then the second Saturday of regular season, amongst working everyday for flood duty. I found time to go out to the same exact spot that I took the youth and set up the same way. Two hours later, I had a big Tom peaking through a bush right at me. He then walked around the bush, and presented me with a ten foot shot.
Wow, I had just gotten my first turkey. It was 19 pounds, 11 inch beard and 7/8 inch spurs. Not too bad at all for my first bird.
